End of the Road by Boyz II Men

End of the Road is a great analogy about the end of a relationship, in this case, a romantic relationship which the male sees as a great relationship (and maybe, as far as a partnership in life) but has been ended by her cheating on him.   For readers who are reading this because their relationships have ended with the other party saying goodbye, I want to say this...  This song was sang by Boyz II Men which really is apt in that boys grow up (mature) to become men and in the process learning about love.  I trust that, as they mature, they will get a better grasp of what is good for them.

As an optimist, I read that every end to a relationship is a building block in our lives and that maybe, just maybe, there is someone out there who is more compatible and we just have to wait.  I believe that life is a like a jigsaw -- sometimes a piece seems to fit but the fit may well not be perfect.  However, I must also say that maybe, just maybe, in life, we may just never find a perfect fit.  We see many of our friends get wedded before 30 but, my point stands because, many will also get divorced before they are 40.  Sometimes the fit seems good and tight BUT we will never know.  Don't settle if you currently question the "fit"!  I have a dear friend with high EQ who told me, "If you question if it is love, (then) it isn't."  Life really is just that simple.

Some lyrics are spoken while the rest are sung.  I cannot fault this combination because, in a song, by changing how a song should be delivered (i.e., singing) to speaking makes the listener pay attention to what is being said.  If the singers "recited" rather than say it, the effect will be terrible.  The monotony in tone when speaking conveys some degree of pain, hopelessness, desperation and confusion.  Sometimes it may well be a personal perspective about the "we" in this song.  Because, if you have not realised, the "we" is now in Splitsville.

In the last line of the first stanza when the words are spoken, I find it quite crafty (ps do not read crafty like a fox but rather skilful like a wordsmith who is knowledgeable about love and life) that "You'll be mine forever baby, you just see".  Why crafty?  Because it seems that the she is gone for good but, I hypothesise that, she will always remember him (or at least that is what I think this line means).  *That's the thing about lyrics, you read it and let it have a meaning that sits well in your scheme of things.

I hypothesise that this love had moved from the honeymoon stage where they tell each other sweet nothing.  There is that innocence about love where they both told each other that their love will last forever.  I have met numerous older couples who had been divorced and re-partnered in life.  Their divorce helps them to see what they are really after in the subsequent relationship.

You might like to note that men, in general, struggle more with the end of romantic relationships.  In this case, I sense that.  That sleeplessness...  their sadness...  negative cognitions...  dare I add, he may also be struggling with appetite and going to work.  Regular life (post the loss of this relationship) will be difficult because every corner will bear shadows of her.  To a certain extent, I gather that he has come to terms with this as the song (time) progresses.  Nevertheless, the struggles remain.  Good to know that he is not heartless.  The man in this song obviously was not the one who had sent an SMS or updated Facebook status to newly single.  On the contrary, she was the one who cheated on him.  He is a sincere man, one whom I wish finds happiness in the next relationship because, afterall, whatever that does not break you can only make you stronger.

End Of The Road by Boyz II Men

(spoken)
Girl you know we belong together
I have no time for you to be playing
With my heart like this
You'll be mine forever baby, you just see

(verse)
We belong together
And you know that I'm right
Why do you play with my heart,
Why do you play with my mind?

Said we'd be forever
Said it'd never die
How could you love me and leave me
And never say good-bye?

Well I can't sleep at night without holding you tight
Girl, each time I try I just break down and cry
Pain in my head oh I'd rather be dead
Spinnin' around and around

Chorus:
Although we've come to the End Of The Road
Still I can't let you go
It's unnatural, you belong to me, I belong to you
Come to the End of the Road
Still I can't let you go
It's unnatural, you belong to me, I belong to you

Girl, I know you really love me,
You just don't realize
You've never been there before
It's only your first time

Maybe I'll forgive you, hmm
Maybe you'll try
We should be happy together
Forever, you and I

Could you love me again like you loved me before
This time I want you to love me much more
This time instead just come to my bed
And baby just don't let me go

Chorus

(spoken)
Girl, I'm here for you
All those times of night when you just hurt me
And just ran out with that other fella
Baby I knew about it, I just didn't care
You just don't understand how much I love you do you?
I'm here for YOU

I'm not out to go out and cheat on you all night
Just like you did baby but that's all right
Hey, I love you anyway
And I'm still gonna be here for you 'till my dying day baby
Right now, I'm just in so much pain baby
Cuz you just won't come back to me
Will you? Just come back to me

(Lonely)
Yes baby my heart is lonely
(Lonely)
My heart hurts baby
(Lonely)
Yes I feel pain too
Baby please

This time instead just come to my bed
And baby just don't let me go

Chorus

Chorus (a cappella)
